Simulating Black-hole-devouring-star Scenarios

In the Discoveries section of the National Science Foundation (NSF) website, Aaron Dubrow writes that researchers from Georgia Tech have used a mix of theoretical and computer-based approaches to predict what happens when a black hole devours a star and emits a flare of light in an event known as a tidal disruption. The National Institute for Computational Sciences-managed Kraken is one of the NSF supercomputers supporting the simulation of the dynamics of these phenomena. Read more here.
