NICS Notifications
-
The NICS archival storage, HPSS, will be down for maintenance from 8 am until 11 am EST.
-
Kraken will be down for preventive maintenance from 8 am until 8 pm on Thursday, March 8. At this time, Kraken’s operating system will be upgraded to CLE 3.1. Users should relink their codes after the upgrade, although a full recompile may be necessary. Users should also re-submit their jobs to the queue after this maintenance as all jobs will be deleted from the queue during the upgrade.
GRAM5 services will be unavailable for approximately 12 hours after Kraken has been returned to production.
The Lustre file system on Kraken will also be upgraded from version 1.6 to 1.8. Because Lustre is a scratch filesystem, users are highly encouraged to archive their files to HPSS or otherwise safeguard their data. See http://www.nics.tennessee.edu/CLE3.1_upgrade for the most up to date information.

RDAV
NICS and RDAV are pleased to announce the 2012 Spring training held March 19 – 22 on the University of Tennessee campus in Knoxville, TN. This four-day workshop starts out with an introduction to HPC, continues with instruction in parallel programming and I/O, and ends with lessons on profiling tools, debugging, and other techniques. Come for the days that interest you or stay for the entire workshop. We welcome current users of XSEDE resources, researchers considering using XSEDE resources in the future, and students hoping to learn more about High Performance Computing.
We can offer 10 grants of $400 to support the travel of students or post-docs to Knoxville for this training. Contact Amy Szczepanski (aszczepa@utk.edu) for more information about these travel grants.
